I enjoyed the Wicked<\/a><\/em> movie, Part One, from the first time I saw it in theaters. While I enjoyed the movie overall, the soundtrack truly stole the show. <\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cDefying Gravity\u201d and \u201cI\u2019m Not That Girl\u201d have become unexpected mini-themes for 2025. My husband, one of my sons and I often break out into impromptu singalongs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If it\u2019s something that I definitely want to do, I think \u201cIt\u2019s meeeee!\u201d \u266a. On the other hand, if it\u2019s something I\u2019m not that excited about doing or just don\u2019t want to do at all, \u201cI\u2019m not that girl\u2026\u201d \u266a runs through my mind. It\u2019s a fun way to help me create clear boundaries in 2025!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I saw Wicked<\/em> three times in the movie theaters. The first time, I went with my husband Reggie. He enjoyed it and wanted to see the play afterward. I\u2019ve seen the play on Broadway and loved it. (The Broadway theater tickets are overpriced for the show now so he\u2019ll have to wait until the frenzy dies down.)

The second time, I went to see it with one of my dear friends who gifted me the original live theater tickets. The movie theater version also entertained her. Finally, I went by myself because I wanted to catch missed details. The two women sitting beside me were weeping their poor eyes out at the end of the movie<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I admit that I slept during various parts of each of the movie theater viewings. It\u2019s not the movie, it\u2019s me. I\u2019m notorious for falling asleep in movie theaters- especially if the movie is long. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recognizing the need for a brightly lit viewing experience, I was happy to accept a public relations offer to watch the home entertainment release. A family movie night happened shortly after. I\u2019m pleased to say that I remained attentive throughout the movie and my entire family really appreciated the film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wicked<\/em> is a visually stunning movie that takes you on an emotional ride at times. The actors were wonderful \u2013 Ariana (Glinda) was funny and Cynthia (Elphaba) gave an amazing, expressive performance. The orchestra, the scenery and practically everything else worked together very well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, I think the film masterfully translated the stage magic to the screen. It has several powerful, timely messages \u2013 especially about doing what\u2019s right, even when it\u2019s unpopular. The movie also explored how the nature of our \u201cwants\u201d changes as we grow and mature and learn new information. I\u2019m definitely looking forward to Part Two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I see why the movie Wicked<\/em> received 10 Oscar nominations \u2013 including Best Picture. What I don\u2019t understand\/find surprising is director Jon M. Chu\u2019s, omission. It\u2019s not like the movie just put itself together. Chu\u2019s vision and artistry helped bring the play to life on the movie screen. Oh, well\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether you\u2019re a fan of the musical, seeking a new movie experience, or simply looking for a family-friendly film, I highly recommend Wicked<\/em>. You can watch it by yourself, on a date, with a girlfriend, with your family or all of the above like me! Perhaps you\u2019ll be like my family by the end and have random \u201cwho can hold the note the longest\u201d contests. (In my home, it\u2019s my husband.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
