Last night, my church held our annual pre-Thanksgiving potluck dinner. I was planning on bringing my \u201cgo-to\u201d dish \u2013 mac and cheese. Unfortunately, my oven decided to stop working midway through the baking. Since I didn\u2019t have time to prepare anything else, I went to my local Chinese food spot and bought several quarts of chicken fried rice instead. (It was alright. We have a multicultural feast so some of my Asian brothers and sisters were bringing fried rice, noodles, and the like.)

After the meal, one of my friends mentioned that she saw a mac and cheese dish that didn\u2019t look like mine. \u201cThat\u2019s not Kim\u2019s mac and cheese,\u201d she said. I laughed because it reminded me of the 10\/1 Instagram post of Kaavia James Union Wade<\/a>. (She is so cute and her mom\/whoever writes the funniest captions to go with her photos.) The end of the quote for that day was, \u201d\u00a0You can\u2019t eat just anybody\u2019s (finish the sentence).\u201d <\/strong> Macaroni and cheese was one of the top answers in the comments. Actually, three of my most popular Thanksgiving sides (mac and cheese, collard greens and potato salad) were popular answers. If you are trying to get upgraded from being asked to \u201cbring the ice\u201d for food get-togethers, feel free to use these easy recipes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3 \u201cYou Can\u2019t Eat just anybody\u2019s\u201d sides<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

1. Macaroni and Cheese<\/a>:<\/strong> This recipe is hard to mess up. A friend prepared this dish for a group meal. A mutual friend (who tasted her dish) then contacted me to get the recipe because it was so good to her. For me, that\u2019s the test of a good recipe!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Collard Greens:<\/strong> It still trips me out that people pay a lot<\/strong> of money to order collard greens. They do take a while to prepare though so I like to cook mine the day before I plan on serving them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Southern<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

3. Potato Salad<\/a><\/strong>: This was one of the hardest recipes to get. I was eventually able to convert the \u201cpinch of\u201d and \u201ca little bit of\u201d from an auntie in order to get a consistently great potato salad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 More \u201cmost Requested\u201d Sides<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

1. Sweet Potato Casserole<\/a>:<\/strong> It\u2019s so easy to make but<\/strong> tastes so good! (I\u2019ll remember to take a photo of the sweet potato casserole in its dish \u201cone day\u201d\u2026)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Cabbage<\/a>:<\/strong> What can I say? It\u2019s a little smelly to \u201cmy guys\u201d while it\u2019s cooking but the taste more than makes up for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Mashed Potatoes<\/a>:<\/strong> There are rice people and then there are mashed potatoes people. I am the latter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. String Beans<\/a>: <\/strong>To my surprise, everyone doesn\u2019t love collard greens. String beans is a \u201csafe\u201d green vegetable that most people like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
