I love living in NYC year-round. However, summer is my favorite time to live in the city entertainment-wise. There are so many free and low-cost events in the summer that are great for families. I wrote about some of them in the 25 Free Things to Do in Queens NY in the Summer<\/a>\u00a0post and will be sharing more general NYC free events (movies, etc.) in the weeks to come. Today, I\u2019m sharing the\u00a015 best free concerts in NYC in the summer. Whether you are looking for options to enjoy on a date, hanging out with friends or with your family, these are all great picks!<\/p>\n

1. Broadway in Bryant Park<\/strong>
\nThursdays (July 7th to August 11th) from 12:30pm to 1:30pm<\/em>
\nBryant Park
\nPopular on and off Broadway show stars perform their hits in these 6 performances.<\/p>\n

2. Good Morning America\u2019s 2016 Summer Concert Series<\/a><\/strong>
\nFridays through September 2nd;\u00a0Doors open at 6am<\/em>
\nRumsey Playfield in Central Park
\nThis year marks the 8th year of this series that airs live on the \u201cGood Morning America\u201d show from 7am \u2013 9am. Sia and Keith Urban are just a couple of the planned performances.<\/p>\n

3. IDNYC card<\/a> concert halls
\n<\/strong>The ID card offers\u00a0free one-year memberships to an assortment of cultural institutions including certain NYC concert halls.<\/p>\n

4. Lincoln Center Out of Doors<\/a><\/strong>
\nVarious dates, July 20th through August 13th
\n<\/em>On the plazas of Lincoln Center
\nThere are many performances (including multiple musical concerts and family events) in this free series.<\/p>\n

5. Mad. Sq. Music Summer Series 2016
\n<\/strong>First concert on June 30th at 7pm, more concerts to be announced soon
\n<\/em>Madison Square Park
\nThis eclectic outdoor concert series of nationally touring acts is held on the Oval Lawn.<\/p>\n

6. Metropolitan Opera\u2019s Summer Recital Series
\n<\/strong><\/a><\/strong>Multiple dates, June 22nd to July 13th
\n<\/em>The Met\u2019s annual Summer Recital Series offers six performances (featuring rising opera stars) in the parks of all five boroughs.<\/p>\n

7.Naumberg Orchestral Concerts<\/a><\/strong>
\nJune 28th to August 2nd
\n<\/em>Naumburg Bandshell
\nThis is the 111th year of free classical music concerts.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

8. NYC Parks Free Summer Concerts
\n<\/a><\/strong>Various dates
\n<\/em>There is an assortment of performances \u2013 rock, folk, jazz, classical, world, etc. \u2013 at the parks this summer.<\/p>\n

9. Summer in the Square
\n<\/strong>Various dates<\/em>
\nUnion Square
\nA variety of music (jazz, hip-hop, etc.) is offered on the park\u2019s South Plaza and in the West Side seating area.<\/p>\n

10. Summer on the Hudson<\/strong>
\nVarious dates
\n<\/em>Riverside Park & West Harlem Piers Park (from 59th<\/sup> street to 153rd<\/sup> along the Hudson River)
\nThis popular annual outdoor arts & culture festival includes\u00a0a diversity of music concerts.<\/p>\n

11. Summergarden: New Music for New York<\/strong>
\nSundays, July 10-31 (gates open at 7pn) <\/em>
\nMoMA\u2019s Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden
\nJazz and classical music are performed in this concert series.<\/p>\n

12. Summerstage
\n<\/a><\/strong>Various dates<\/em>
\nThere are 115+ performances (including multiple music concerts) being held in 16 parks throughout the five boroughs.<\/p>\n

13. Hudson River Park\u2019s Sunset on the Hudson<\/strong>
\nFridays (June 10th to August 19th) at 7pm
\n<\/em>Pier 45 in Greenwich Village
\nEnjoy some of the city\u2019s favorite local musicians at this annual concert series.<\/p>\n

14. Today Show Citi Concert Series<\/a><\/strong>
\nVarious dates through September 2nd (mainly on Friday mornings)<\/em>
\nRockefeller Plaza
\nAccess to these concerts of famous musical acts (including Celine Dion and Alicia Keys) are available on a first-come, first-served basis.<\/p>\n

15. Washington Square Music Festival<\/a><\/strong>
\nTuesdays in July at 8pm
\n<\/em>Washington Square Park, main stage south of Fifth Avenue
\nThis is the 54th season of free concerts featuring orchestra, opera, jazz and other performances.<\/p>\n
