This weekend was a blur\u2026a wedding in Virginia, my son\u2019s fourth birthday party and (oh yes) I can\u2019t forget \u2026my hair caught on fire! <\/p>\n

On Friday night, I caught a Greyhound bus to Hampton, VA.\u00a0 <\/span>(I haven\u2019t caught a bus home since college days!)\u00a0 <\/span>My dad was having a wedding celebration in VA on Saturday evening, so the bus schedule was the only thing that worked out.<\/p>\n

I thought that I would take a (kid-free: I left the kids at home with my husband) nap once I arrived on Saturday morning.\u00a0 <\/span>I was (happily) wrong.\u00a0 <\/span>My sister and her kids met my mom and me at a great breakfast place.\u00a0 <\/span>Then, I spent the rest of the day with my mom doing girly things (salon\/shopping, etc.) and catching up.\u00a0 <\/span>Afterwards, I went to my dad\u2019s wedding reception.\u00a0 <\/span>It was a lot of fun.\u00a0 <\/span>Great food, great music and (best of all) my dad and his new bride seemed really happy.\u00a0 <\/span>After, the reception, my dad drove me to the bus station and waited with me until the bus came.\u00a0 <\/span>It was great having some one on one time with my dad.\u00a0 <\/span>Our relationship has grown so much over the years.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019m so happy to be his daughter!<\/p>\n

So my bus arrived back in NYC on Sunday morning.\u00a0 <\/span>Then, I needed to wait two hours for the subway to take me home.\u00a0 <\/span>I was so happy when I finally set foot in my home.\u00a0 <\/span>I was only gone one full day, but I really missed my husband and kids.\u00a0 <\/span>(Note to self: don\u2019t ever take a job that requires a lot of travel!)\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

Once I got home, I had 45 minutes to get ready to go to church.\u00a0 <\/span>We made it on time.\u00a0 <\/span>However, I missed most of the service, because I was running around looking for the perfect birthday cake to match my son\u2019s \u201cPirates of the Caribbean\u201d cake topper that I had ordered from Amazon\/ The PartyWorks.com<\/a>.\u00a0 I ended up getting two cakes \u2013 one for the pirates and one for the princesses.<\/p>\n

As soon as service was over, my husband and I jumped in our car to go set up for Michael\u2019s \u201cPirate and Princess\u201d party that started an hour later.\u00a0 <\/span>Overall, everything went really well.\u00a0 <\/span>(I have really, great helpful friends and family!)\u00a0 <\/span>Everyone seemed to have a great time.\u00a0 <\/span>The girls had fun with their princess activities, especially the face-painting.\u00a0 <\/span>The boys had fun with their pirate ones, especially \u201cPirate Sean\u201d singing pirate songs while playing his guitar. One of my favorite parts was that one of the smallest girls at the party was the one who pulled the string that brought all of the candy\/toys down from the Pirates of the Caribbean string pi\u00f1ata.\u00a0 <\/span>I was also happy that there was room for everyone to move around freely (1500 square feet).\u00a0 <\/span>For the first time in a long while, I didn\u2019t feel claustrophobic at a big birthday party.\u00a0 <\/span>Most of all, I was happy that my son \u201cloved\u201d his party.<\/p>\n

Oh yes, my hair catching on fire\u2026\u00a0 <\/span>At the end of the party, we were getting ready to sing \u201cHappy Birthday\u201d to Michael.\u00a0 <\/span>I had already gotten over the fact that some unnamed person had placed a phone book on top of my cake topper ruining it.\u00a0 <\/span>Oh well, Michael still had two cakes \u2013 he would be okay.\u00a0 <\/span>So, three of the candles were lit, but my husband was having a hard time with the fourth candle.\u00a0 <\/span>I leaned over to help get the wick out.\u00a0 <\/span>All of a sudden, I see flames \u2013 coming from my hair \u2013 one of the candles had lit my hair on fire!\u00a0 <\/span>Thank God that I don\u2019t use a lot of hair product or this story might not have had such a happy ending.\u00a0 <\/span>I was able to quickly put out the hair fire.\u00a0 <\/span>Then, we promptly finished lighting the candles, sang for my son, and served the cakes.\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s what we moms do\u2026keep on keeping on\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Fortunately, I didn\u2019t lose any hair in the incident.\u00a0 <\/span>Some of the guests and I were joking about my \u201cMichael Jackson\u201d moment.<\/p>\n

After the party, we went to an (unexpected) early St. Patrick\u2019s Day dinner (corned beef and cabbage) over my husband\u2019s aunt\u2019s house.\u00a0 <\/span>Suffice it to say, by the end of the week-end I was a zombie\u2026albeit a happy one.\u00a0 <\/span>My dad was happy.\u00a0 <\/span>My son was happy.\u00a0 <\/span>Who could ask for anything more?<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
