Michael, my oldest son, is making me and my husband laugh with the planning of his fourth birthday party this month.\u00a0 <\/span>Once we finally settled on a theme (pirates and princesses) that all three of us could agree on, the fun began.<\/p>\n

Who should we invite? \u00a0<\/span>My son: \u201cEverybody\u201d.\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s been going around to his friend\u2019s parents asking if they received their invitation.\u00a0 <\/span>(God forbid if I hadn\u2019t invited all of his little friends!)\u00a0 <\/span>Well, we didn\u2019t invite everyone.\u00a0 <\/span>However with about 30 kids along with their parents, we\u2019re looking at 70+ people.\u00a0 <\/span>My husband: \u201cWho does he think that he is \u2013 P. Diddy?\u00a0 We wouldn\u2019t even invite that many people if we were throwing a party for ourselves!\u201d<\/p>\n

Where should we have the party? My son: \u201cAt our house\u201d That\u2019s not happening.\u00a0 <\/span>I get too claustrophobic with a bunch of kids running around in a tight space.\u00a0 <\/span>So, we\u2019re having the party at Chelsea Studios. \u00a0<\/span>They have great spaces at reasonable prices (Unlike other studios in the city that charge you 3 to 4 times as much when they hear that it\u2019s a party, Chelsea Studios charges the same rates as they do for rehearsals, auditions, etc.)<\/p>\n

What should we give the kids that come?\u00a0 <\/span>We looked through various pirate and princess themed things and came up with bandanas, tattoos, eye patches and pirate bracelets for the boys along with swords that they would make as crafts at the party; tiaras, nail polish, lip gloss and princess bracelets for the girls along with the glitter wands that they would make as crafts.\u00a0 <\/span>That was reasonable.\u00a0 <\/span>Then, my son tried to start adding things for the girls. \u201cWe should get all of them glittery purses and necklaces and\u2026\u201d No.\u00a0 <\/span>Anyway, Birthday in a Box\u00a0has great party decorating packages while Oriental Trading<\/a> has really great party favors and craft supplies.<\/p>\n

Michael also mentioned that he wanted a (real) ship at his party with water (to sail it on) and a parrot.
