Known for its pit-cooked barbecue and southern sides, The Pit did not fail to live up to our family\u2019s expectations. We went on a Sunday night and the place was packed. (Note to self: make a reservation the next time!) It was worth the wait though.\u00a0 This is what we ordered\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mominthecity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/the-pit-raleigh-nc.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17305\" title=\"the pit raleigh nc\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mominthecity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/the-pit-raleigh-nc.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A few thoughts:<\/p>\n<p>-The<strong> corn fritters and biscuits<\/strong> that came with the meal were delicious. (Corn fritters can sometimes be \u201cgreasy\u201d, but these ones were perfectly prepared.)<\/p>\n<p>-The <strong>ribs<\/strong> were tender and flavorful. Reggie is picky about his barbecue ribs and he thoroughly enjoyed them. (I love my slow cooker ribs, but they really don\u2019t compare to pit-cooked ones. Oh, well\u2026)<\/p>\n<p>-The crust of the <strong>Southern fried chicken<\/strong> was crispy and also full of flavor. It was thoroughly cooked, but not as \u201chard\u201d as I personally like for mine to be prepared.\u00a0 (Granted, it\u2019s challenging to make chicken that is both \u201cjuicy\u201d and \u201chard\u201d at the same time for large groups. That is why Reggie is my favorite fried chicken \u201cchef\u201d.)<\/p>\n<p>-The<strong> cabbage collard greens<\/strong> were not what we expected. Being from the south, I am accustomed to standard green collards. I didn\u2019t realize that cabbage collards look and taste completely different. We prefer \u201cregular\u201d collard greens.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 The <strong>apple crostada dessert<\/strong> was amazing. My guys are already making plans for me to make one when we go apple picking this fall.
